Cambridge, USA, 1942. Stan Ulam, a 30-year-old talented Polish Jewish mathematician, loses his Harvard fellowship but finds a mysterious job in New Mexico through his friend Johnny von Neumann. Stan moves to Los Alamos, marries Françoise, and works on a top-secret nuclear bomb project alongside eccentric immigrant scientists. Meanwhile, he tries to help his sister escape Nazi-occupied Poland.
