Handmade Films were formed in 1978 by George Harrison after Eric Idle told him about the script of Monty Pythons Life of Brian being rejected by EMI Films. The studio was initially formed to produce Long Good Friday, which was later saved from being dropped thanks to Bob Hoskins. Handmade Films went on to produce several successful films, including Mona Lisa, The Missionary, Private Function, Water, Bellman and True, Lonely Passion of Judith Hearne, Withnail, and Time Bandits.
