In the 1880s, the Ozark Mountains of Taney County, Missouri were plagued by lawlessness, with Bushwhackers, murderers, and thieves terrorizing the community. A group of vigilantes, known as the Bald Knobbers, emerged to take matters into their own hands. With a strong presence of nearly 1000 members, their reputation spread across the country, with news reports reaching as far as New York and London. Their secret meetings took place on the bare tops of the mountains, earning them the name Bald Knobbers. Their mission was to rid the land of evil, resulting in 40 notorious murders that made headlines.
