In the movie, a district attorney's wife, Esther, is having an affair with Jack Keene, but he scornfully rejects her. In a fit of rage, Esther kills Jack. Her son, Bob, a lawyer, takes the fall for his mother and is sentenced to life imprisonment. However, the truth begins to unravel when Jack's butler, Druggett, discovers the real killer and uses the information to blackmail Esther. Meanwhile, Bob's girlfriend, Peg Harper, informs his father, the district attorney, about the murder, setting off a chain of events that threatens to destroy the family.
