Kay Kyser, a renowned band leader, is forced to perform a concert for defense plant workers, despite his desire for a holiday. He's further dismayed when the plant owner's daughter, Julie, takes over as vocalist after the original singer quits to get married, and clashes with her unconventional approach to joining the band.
