Klaus Kinski's character, Cobra Verde, is hired to oversee a plantation, but after being accused of impropriety with the owner's daughters, he's banished to Africa. Alone and the only white man in the area, Cobra Verde faces brutal treatment, but eventually finds himself leading a rebel army. As he struggles to cope with his isolation, he teeters on the brink of madness.
