In 1971, Christo and Jeanne-Claude conceived a plan to wrap the Reichstag. After years of negotiations with government officials, they were granted permission to bring their vision to life in 1994. The project finally came to fruition in June 1995, as a steel framework was erected and 17,060 yards of blue rope were used to bind a metalized material around the iconic building. The result was a mesmerizing spectacle, with the wrapped Reichstag appearing to shift and shimmer in the wind, drawing in five million awestruck visitors.
