Doglegs background

Doglegs

As Tokyo janitor Shintaro approaches the end of his 20-year Doglegs wrestling career, he yearns to trade in his wrestling boots for a conventional life, striving for success in his daily work and exploring new experiences outside the ring.

Tokyo janitor Shintaro moonlights as a pro wrestler in an underground league, but he's getting old and wants to pursue a regular life. His rival, Kitajima, has a reputation for beating up the disabled and challenges Shintaro to one last fight, with the winner able to retire. Meanwhile, another wrestler, L'Amant, a showy cross-dresser with cerebral palsy, struggles with addiction and depression, while his carer, Nakajima, who is clinically depressed himself, wants to prove his condition is real. The film explores themes of autonomy and disability, asking what it means to be disabled and who gets to decide.
