Fanny and Alexander

In early 20th century Sweden, a lively and open-minded family, led by the matriarch Helena, welcomes storytelling and love. The family's children, Alexander and Fanny, inherit their parents' passion for acting and storytelling. However, their life takes a drastic turn when their father dies, and their mother, Emilie, remarries Bishop Edvard Vergérus, a strict and humorless man. As Emilie tries to regain her family's freedom, Alexander struggles to maintain his principles while obeying his stepfather, and Fanny and Emilie become prisoners in the bishop's austere house.
