In a battle between God and Satan, the fate of Faust, a brilliant and devout alchemist, hangs in the balance. As a plague ravages the land, Faust's desperation grows, and he makes a pact with Satan's servant, Mephisto, trading his soul for youth and power. However, Faust soon becomes disillusioned with his newfound abilities and falls in love with Gretchen, a young woman who is subsequently shamed by their affair.
