Afghanistan's first democratic election sets the stage after 9/11. A medical doctor and mother of three, Dr. Massouda Jalal, defies the Taliban regime as a children's advocate. She becomes the only woman in a field of 17 presidential candidates, facing death threats and bomb attacks. Despite the danger, Jalal campaigns through the streets, showing that ordinary Afghans, women and men, will determine the fate of the new democracy.
