Six strangers, four men and two women, carpool to work at an airplane manufacturer, contributing to the American war effort. Their daily silence is broken when the driver, Jim Benson, shares made-up stories about his carpoolers with his wife, inviting them to dinner. As each person reflects on their past, they realize they've all taken different paths to end up at the factory. The dinner invitation becomes a turning point, forcing them to decide whether to open up about their lives.
