In the vibrant 1922 music scene, a gifted but struggling composer finds inspiration in a lively musical production, surrounded by a charismatic cast of characters.

Kenneth Harvey, a young composer from Kansas, arrives in New York in 1922 with his concerto in hopes of publication. He meets Danny O'Mara, the owner of a speakeasy, who wants to produce a Broadway show. Ken's fortunes improve when he falls for singer Bonnie Watson, but his progress is hindered when O'Mara secretly adapts his compositions for the Greenwich Village Gaieties.
