Don Diego, a ranch owner, is struggling to pay a hefty fine to the corrupt tax commissioner, Harkness, for unpaid taxes on a large herd of cattle. Steve Randall, a young American, offers to drive the cattle to the commissioner's office, despite feeling the fine is unfair. However, upon arrival, he discovers Harkness is out, and a chance encounter at the local cantina leads to a fight, prompting Harkness to vow revenge against Steve.

Wealthy ranch owner Don Diego oversees his niece Dolores and American ward Steve Randall, who has brought a large cattle herd to the property, but their peaceful existence is disrupted when Don Diego learns he must pay a significant tax to the local authorities.
