Heart Like a Wheel background

Heart Like a Wheel

A fearless female driver shatters stereotypes by dominating the high-stakes world of top-fuel drag racing, pushing herself to the limit while making tough choices and taking bold risks.

Shirley Muldowney, a woman with a natural passion for driving, began her racing career as a child when her father let her sit behind the wheel. As a teenager, she and her boyfriend Jack Muldowney participated in local street races. Jack, her husband and mechanic, supported her hobby, but Shirley saw it as a potential career. She fought to become licensed in the National Hot Rod Association, overcoming the stereotype that only men could participate in motor sports. With the help of fellow driver Connie Kalitta, she earned the nickname "Cha-Cha," which became widely used.
