In a daring publicity stunt, a clever publicist concocts a plan to create a crime thriller by casting a real-life criminal in the lead role, convincing a naive filmmaker to partner on the project.

A publicist for a small film studio concocts a plan to create a gangster movie starring a genuine gangster. He persuades a foreign director, unfamiliar with American gang culture, to join the project. They discover their ideal lead when they spot a rugged individual knock out a man in a nightclub. However, it's the man who got knocked out, not the knockout artist, who turns out to be the real gangster, leading to a series of unexpected events.
