George Trotter, a driven performer, leaves his small town for the glamour of London, seeking fame and fortune, only to become embroiled in a murder investigation at his boarding house, where he must prove his innocence to avoid being the prime suspect.

George Formby, a young man from Manchester, leaves his job in the cotton mills to pursue his dream of becoming a famous entertainer in London. He arrives at Ma Tubb's Select Boarding House, a cheap lodging filled with aspiring performers. But when a murder takes place, and the police suspect George, he must clear his name and navigate the cutthroat world of show business to achieve his goals.
