In this movie, a family of sharecroppers, the Weavers, struggle to make ends meet and share their story of hardship with their landlord. However, they soon discover that he too is facing financial difficulties, and his family life is complicated by a lazy son and a wife seeking a divorce. The landlord then asks the Weavers to switch places with him and sort out his problems.
