Claudia Brenner and Rebecca Wight went camping in Pennsylvania's Michaux State Forest in 1988. They encountered Stephen Roy Carr, a "mountain man" with a shotgun, but didn't think much of it. Later, Carr followed them and shot at them eight times, killing Rebecca and leaving Claudia severely injured. Carr's motivation was severe homophobia, as he was provoked by witnessing a lesbian couple. He now serves a life sentence without parole.
