However, they soon discovered they were in land inhabited by indigenous tribes, prepared to defend their territory against the invaders. Jandamarra was born in this tumultuous era in 1873, with his spirit country on his father's side and his mother Jinny, a powerful and independent woman, belonging to the Lennard River flat lands.
