A stranger named Joshua arrives in the town of Auburn, bringing with him small acts of kindness that gradually bring the community together. He helps a teenager learn to play the guitar, saves a marriage, and teaches a priest to speak about faith. Joshua's next project is restoring an old Baptist church, which he does with the help of a stuttering teenager named Theo. The town comes together to complete the project, and Joshua's miracles, including curing a blind woman and reviving a dying man, overwhelm the community. However, a bitter priest named Father Tordone is skeptical of Joshua's abilities and seeks to have him condemned by the Vatican. Ultimately, Joshua reveals himself as Jesus to the Pope and leaves Auburn, but the people are left with a sense of fulfillment and happiness.
