Young William F. Cody, later known as Buffalo Bill, returns to Kansas with his father after striking it rich in the Colorado goldfields. Their wagon train is ambushed, and Bill's father is killed. After recovering, Bill finds a clue to the attackers' identity and sets out to uncover the truth. He arrives in Swiftwater, where he meets old friends and discovers the town is divided between Union and Confederate factions. Bill searches for answers, eventually joining the raiders and learning their leader is his former fiancée's lover.
