Idealistic doctoral graduates Bob, Louise, and John plan to revive the dead. John joins a corporate lab, but is disillusioned by the lack of meaningful research. Five years later, his depression worsens after his wife's passing and he loses custody of his son Danny. Danny runs away, befriending an east-side gang. When his father refuses to help a injured gang member, Danny doubts his father's abilities. John's refusal to revive a gassed dog leads Danny to abandon his father. After reflection, John revives the dog with the help of Dr. Bob Cornish and the gang, restoring their faith in each other.
