Lucky Jim background

Lucky Jim

A professor's search for meaning is hindered by a lackluster university and a suffocating mentor, as his own relationships falter and stagnate.

Jim Dixon, a university lecturer, feels trapped in a miserable life. He's forced to cater to his absent-minded and boring professor, Welch, to keep his job, and is stuck with an unexciting but neurotic girlfriend, Margaret Peel. The local pub is his only solace. His weekend getaway with the Welch family turns disastrous with the arrival of Bertrand, Welch's loud-mouthed and boorish son, who brings along Christine Callaghan, the captivating and unattainable woman Jim longs for.
