In a small jungle settlement, an elderly woman gives birth to Macunaima, a fully grown man, who sets out on a journey to the Big City with his family and followers. Along the way, he experiences more miracles, but retains the innocence and naivety of a child. Upon arrival, Macunaima is recruited by terrorists for their revolutionary plans and learns valuable lessons about the world, including the fact that not everything is as it seems.
