In 1848, the Italian region of Casamare faces an Austrian invasion. Military Governor Larocca delivers a patriotic speech, but his trust is shattered when accused of treason by Count Dimorna. Larocca murders Dimorna, framing him for suicide, and seizes his estate. When Captain Renato Dimorna arrives, he's attacked by villagers, but Larocca saves him, intending to keep him prisoner. Renato, determined to clear his father's name, steals Monte Cristo's sword and becomes a masked avenger.
