Jerry Kingsley, a 56-year-old widower, has been living with his sister Evelyn, who is trying to help him move on from his wife's passing. Jerry's daughter Lillian is worried that Evelyn has a fixation on him, but Jerry is actually looking for someone to love. He meets Betty, a 24-year-old receptionist who has recently gotten divorced, and they start a turbulent May-September relationship. Despite their differences, they decide to get married, but their relationship is put to the test when Betty's ex-husband George reenters her life.
