Two friends, Barry Gilbert and Doc Norton, enter an empty mansion, looking for food and shelter. Servants arrive, expecting the return of the wealthy John Clark Reitter Jr., whose family runs a newspaper. Barry decides to impersonate the son, but things become complicated when the real Reitter is arrested for murder and his wife asks for Barry's help to prove his innocence. Along the way, Barry finds love with Patricia Hammond and gets a job as a reporter at Reitter's newspaper.
