In 1877, a prospector's mule stumbles upon a silver-filled rock, sparking a rich strike. As the town of Epitaph grows, so does the presence of outlaws, led by Tracy Dalton, who bring chaos and destruction. However, when Bill Elliott arrives, he's initially just passing through, but a series of events, including a run-in with the outlaws and a chance encounter with a beautiful school teacher, prompt him to stay and take on the lawless elements plaguing the town.
