Famous detective Tip O'Neil is summoned to an old friend's estate after a mysterious telegram is sent by the attractive secretary, Amy Hutchins. Upon arrival, Tip finds that the estate's dog was shot by extortionists, and threatening notes were left behind. The situation escalates when the estate's ward, Corinne, is kidnapped, and a ransom demand is made. As Tip works to locate Corinne, he uncovers a web of secrets and deceit, including the fiancé's criminal past and the suspicious behavior of various individuals on the estate.
