Upper-class pianist Bengt Vyldeke loses his sight in a military accident and struggles to cope with his new disability. He becomes dependent on his sister Agneta and a young servant, Ingrid, who falls in love with him. However, their relationship is complicated when Bengt belittles Ingrid, and he eventually meets her again, now with a new boyfriend.
