On New Year's Eve, Alan Holiday, a former OSS officer, is visited by Catherine Carrel, who claims to be a close friend of Jules Lemoine, a war veteran. Lemoine sends Holiday on a secret mission to Paris, entrusting him with a reel of tape. Before departing, Lemoine gives Holiday a fake reel to deceive enemy agents, keeping the real one for himself.
