Nick Blake, a con man with a military background, receives an honorable discharge and decides to leave his old life behind, planning to settle down with his girlfriend in New York. However, he changes his plans and heads to Los Angeles with his friend Al, where they get involved in a big con targeting a wealthy widow, Gladys Halvorsen. Nick agrees to bankroll and carry out the con, negotiating a deal with his friend Doc, but things become complicated as Nick falls for Gladys and faces pressure from Doc to deliver his share of the loot.
