In a Buddhist village, a young girl named Kaya is expected to dedicate her life to God, but instead, she's sent to Delhi to retrieve a child believed to be the rebirth of their deity. In the city, Kaya and the child, Llahmo, witness a cop's murder and are sheltered by a honest inspector, Shiven, who asks them not to leave until the case is solved. As they work together, Kaya develops feelings for Shiven, who is gravely injured and eventually nursed back to health by her in their village. However, Kaya's father disapproves of her growing attachment to Shiven, viewing him as a corrupting influence on their holy way of life.
