A group of men, including the French naval ship Le Vengeur's captain, Lieutenant Seblon, and one of his sailors, Querelle, who is secretly in love with him, frequent a notorious bar and whorehouse called La Feria. The bar is owned by Nono and Lysiane, where men can buy sex with Lysiane, but only if they win a game of dice against Nono. Querelle's brother, Robert, is Lysiane's current partner, and Querelle is drawn to him. As the characters navigate their desires and identities, they must also confront the lines between sex, desire, and love, and deal with the shame that comes with it.
