In the 1850s, Haakon Haakonsen is forced to join a British ship as a ship boy after his father's injury. Despite initial struggles, he earns the respect of the rough crew. When Royal Navy Lieutenant John Merrick takes charge of security on a voyage to Sidney and Calcutta, Haakon grows suspicious of him after discovering hidden weapons. As tensions rise, Haakon and his friend Jens face danger when a stowaway is discovered, and the ship is wrecked by a rock. Haakon washes up on a deserted island, where he finds a treasure trove of pirate loot and weapons.
