Lola Sánchez, a professor and writer, is tasked with writing a column about the Spanish Civil War. Her research leads her to Rafael Sánchez Mazas, a writer and journalist who was shot during the war. Despite being a fascist, Rafael's miraculous escape from death sparks Lola's interest, and she decides to write a book about the event. She becomes obsessed with finding the unknown soldier who spared his life, and her search leads her to a former soldier named Miralles, whose story may be connected to Rafael's fate.
