Six years after her husband's violent death, Amelia struggles to connect with her 6-year-old son Samuel, whose behavior becomes increasingly erratic and violent. His nightmares are filled with a monster he believes is coming to kill them, and his hallucinations escalate when a mysterious book called "The Babadook" appears. As Amelia tries to manage her son's behavior, she starts to experience strange occurrences that make her wonder if the monster from the book is indeed real.
