On August 18, 1966, 108 inexperienced Australian and NZ soldiers found themselves surrounded and fighting for survival against a massive force of 2,500 battle-hardened Viet Cong and North Vietnamese soldiers. As the rain poured down, the soldiers held off the enemy in a desperate bid to stay alive, their ammunition dwindling and another Vietnamese battalion closing in for the final attack.
