In a world divided, two neighboring countries, the Yooks and Zooks, are locked in a bitter conflict. The source of their hatred? A simple difference in bread-buttering customs: the Yooks prefer butter on top, while the Zooks opt for the bottom. As tensions escalate, a wall is built to separate the cultures, and a Yook border patrol guard takes on a cunning Zook, Van Itch, in a game of wits and weapons.
