Clare, a talented ballet dancer, is forced to reevaluate her career after being told she won't be dancing the lead in the Nutcracker. She decides to spend Christmas with her aunt, Bridget, who has ulterior motives for inviting her. Bridget wants Clare to take over her dance studio and the historic house she grew up in, which is being considered for heritage designation. Clare agrees to help with a traditional Christmas ball to showcase the house to the Heritage Committee, which will take place on Christmas Eve.
