The summer of 1953 saw a remote settlement under siege by a group of recently released prisoners, mostly common criminals, who had been freed from Soviet Gulags after Stalin's death. As the bloodthirsty thugs wreaked havoc, the townspeople and two political prisoners joined forces to defend their home against the marauders.

In a remote Siberian village, two former political prisoners, Sergei and Nikolai, struggle to rebuild their lives after being released from prison in 1953. However, their newfound freedom is short-lived as eight pardoned common criminals wreak havoc on the village, putting their lives in jeopardy.
