Hallie Rogers, a go-go dancer, is determined to make her big break on the TV show "Whizbam". After being repeatedly rejected by the studio bosses, she takes drastic measures and steals the microphone from Glen Campbell during a live performance. The audience goes wild, imitating her dance moves, and a new dance craze, the Tantrum, is born. With the help of teen tycoon Tony Krum, Hallie's career takes off, but she eventually gets fired from "Whizbam". She then forms a duo with out-of-step teen idol Cliff Donner and performs with the Leaves in Palm Springs.
