In a Manhattan apartment, three playwrights, Horace, Nick, and Babe, struggle to come up with a new play. Their brainstorming session is interrupted by a drunken stranger who stumbles in and collapses. As they search his pockets, they discover $15,000 and suspect he might be a blackmailer. But their plot takes a dark turn when the man is found murdered.
