The Crooked Web background

The Crooked Web

A cunning government agent employs a strategic plan to persuade a fugitive to surrender, convincing him to return to Germany, where his alleged crimes are believed to have taken place.

A cafe owner joins two agents, posing as siblings, in a scheme to uncover a hidden fortune in stolen gold buried in Germany during World War II. Unbeknownst to the cafe owner, the agents are actually trying to get a confession out of him for a murder he committed in Germany. The agents manipulate the cafe owner's feelings for one of them, convincing him to join the Army and gain access to the supposed treasure, which is now located on a U.S. Army reservation.
