A young outlaw named Dakota Kid joins a gang led by Ace Crandall, who seeks to overthrow Sheriff Tom White and exploit the community for personal gain. Dakota assumes the identity of the sheriff's long-lost nephew and is appointed marshal, but through his relationships with Red White and Judy, as well as his romance with Mary Lewis, he begins to change his ways.
