Six North Atlantic fishermen, survivors of a sinking boat, cling to two lifeboats, tied together in their determination to stay together and reach safety. With salvaged supplies, they ration food and water under Gib's strict schedule. With only a compass, they're lost at sea, guessing their location. Captain Gerald believes they'll reach land in 6-7 days, but unforeseen circumstances threaten their survival. Merv and his son, "Young" Dickie, find comfort in each other's company, while Mannie's serious arm wound poses a risk of infection. As their situation worsens, the group's solidarity is tested, particularly by outspoken Pete.
