The Fifth-Column Mouse background

The Fifth-Column Mouse

In a desperate bid to survive, a band of mice transforms their passive approach into a bold resistance, joining forces to take on their feline foes.

In a fable about the dangers of appeasement, a group of house mice are threatened by a hungry cat who invades their peaceful lives. While most mice escape to a wall hole, one mouse remains behind and promises the cat that it won't harm anyone if the cat is pampered by all the mice. The mouse acts as a traitor, convincing the others to appease the cat, but the cat's hunger is not satisfied and it soon chases the mice back into their hole. The mice ultimately decide to take a stand against the cat, preparing for battle and creating a wooden dog with mechanical gears and biting teeth to fight back.
