The Garden background

The Garden

In the heart of Los Angeles, a thriving 14-acre community garden has grown from the ashes of the L.A. riots, but its very existence is threatened by the looming specter of demolition.

In South Central Los Angeles, a 14-acre community garden was established as a form of healing after the 1992 L.A. riots, becoming the largest of its kind in the US. Since then, the South Central Farmers have created a thriving oasis, growing their own food, feeding their families, and building a sense of community. However, bulldozers now threaten to destroy this urban haven, as the City of Los Angeles and a powerful developer seek to evict the gardeners and construct warehouses.
