A young coach of a youth baseball team, the Panthers, finds himself entangled in a complicated love triangle when a charming single mother's son joins the team, causing tension in his own marriage.

Bruce Hallerton, a lawyer and Yankees fan, agrees to manage the Panthers Little League team to spend quality time with his son Dennis. Despite the team's losing history, Bruce hopes to bond with his son through baseball, but things don't go as planned. He struggles to balance his coaching duties with his personal life, and faces opposition from other baseball fathers who question his decisions. Additionally, he becomes embroiled in a complicated situation with Doris Patterson, a single mother whose son, Herbie, is the team's pitcher.
